Close UK Immigration Detention Centres

Hundreds of women assembled in Parliament square yesterday to protest for the closure of UK Immigration detention centres and also at the horrific treatment of those seeking asylum.

Yarl’s Wood is the third immigration detention centre to open in 2001, after Dungavel and Harmondsworth. But it is Yarl’s Wood that has been a persistent source of controversy.
The demonstration had high profile backing with MP’s such as Natalie Bennet and members of the SNP attending. There was a call to limit the amount of detention time to 28 days but the ultimate aim is the closure of all UK detention centres.
